Drawing, Goose and Duck Hunt with Falcons [above right]; Goose Hunt [below right]

This is a Drawing. It was created by Jan van der Straet, called Stradanus. It is dated ca. 1596-99 and we acquired it in 1901. Its medium is recto: pen and brown ink, brush and black wash over black chalk on laid paper verso: pen and brown ink on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Binding Evidence: Thirteen irregularly spaced stitching holes run along the right margin of the sheet when viewing the recto. Blank space along that same margin suggests that the sheet was bound into a sketchbook when the drawings were made.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 14.3 × 10.3 cm (5 5/8 × 4 1/16 in.)

It is inscribed

1901-39-151-b verso Inscription “…………… [17 dots] 70 montano [scudi] 38” Translation “…………… [17 dots] 70 come to 38 scudi”
