Scarf, Woven Scarf for the Carol Stanley Collection

This is a Scarf. It was designed by Dorothy Wright Liebes and manufactured by H.S. Herzman.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Alexa Griffith as part of A Dark, A Light, A Bright: The Designs of Dorothy Liebes.

It is dated 1948. Its medium is twill woven wool, synthetic, and lurex. It is a part of the Exhibitions department.


Liebes designed custom fabrics for high-end fashion designers, but she also collaborated with a wide variety of accessories manufacturers to create hats, bags, shoes, and scarves at affordable prices, like these fringed wool scarves "glowing with textural colors." The scarves retailed through department stores for 4 to 12 dollars.
